Firefox call to arms paying off

Get FirefoxRed Herring has an interview with Rob Davis, the man behind the Firefox marketing campaign behind the New York Times ad.

A reminder of the marketing story so far: The Mozilla Foundation wanted to raise money to support launch activities for Firefox 1.0 upon its release on 9 November, including a full-page advertisement in the NY Times – the first-ever, full-page ad in a major daily newspaper in the US (probably in the world) created and paid for by the open source community.

The campaign has been wildly successful, raising $250,000 from donations by around 10,000 people (I gave!) in just ten days. The ad fundraiser has now closed although you can still continue to donate to the overall campaign.

The NY Times ad will cost just under $50,000 and will run sometime during a three-week window in November-December.
