Beckham off with injuries. Rooney gets a red card. 0-0 at 90 minutes. 0-0 at the end of the extra-play 30 minutes. Then a nail biting end of penalty shoot-outs.

The ticker-text says it all.

Nope, I don’t want to talk about it. Plenty of others do, though.

    Hi Neville,

First of all I just want to say that even though I’ve only been listening to the “For Immediate Release” podcast for the last two weeks, I’ve managed to catch up having listened to the last 27 issues. On a personal note I want to thank you guys for your excellent work – but that’s expected of true professionals. What’s not, and the truly great aspect of your podcast is the tremendous commitment you guys have taken on and accomplished weekly – and that deserves a big thank you! I am now an avid listener and will be commenting – it’s the least all of us can do.

So I couldn’t help commenting on this… if you haven’t noticed Yes I’m Portuguese and having lived in the UK for 12 years it wasn’t the first time I had to endure the Portuguese vs. English at football. It was always a relief to win as we have so much to prove to Europe so it would be a shame to screw this up too. Still, I couldn’t help but notice (or feel) that watching this game was like all the others. Not the best of football with both sides demonstrating an enormous respect for each other, playing a very deffensive football – almost as if the outcome had already been decided.

A cruel way to go – but we need it! Last performace table I saw where Portugal were number 1 or 2 was drink driving and accidents oh and number of high school drop outs. So we need this! Thanks and keep up the great work!

That’s a lot of podcast listening, Nuno!

Thanks for your comments; I appreciate your warm words about FIR. Shel and I enjoy doing it, without any doubt at all.

So, let’s talk about the football! I thought it was a pretty good match overall. The Rooney send-off, though, was very disappointing to see. So down to 10 men.

A cruel ending indeed. Everthing decided on those penalties. But hard to see how else to conclude matches in a contest like this.

If Portgual make it to the final (probably against Germany, I reckon), I think they have a very good chance to win. And I really hope it’s not all decided by penalties.

    So I’ll be paying attention!
