I saw this video report on BBC World last night about a rat infestation in a KFC restaurant in New York. Yecch!

Then I thought, I bet it’s on YouTube. No prizes for that guess. Yes, there’s a video on YouTube from a FoxTV report last week.

KFC has this concise statement on their corporate website:

KFC/Taco Bell responds to isolated Greenwich Village, NY pest control incident
This is an isolated incident at a single restaurant at 331 6th Avenue in Greenwich Village, New York and it is totally unacceptable. The restaurant is closed and we will not allow it to be reopened until it has been sanitized and given a complete clean bill of health. We want to assure our customers that nothing is more important to us than food safety and their health.

If you watch the video on YouTube, you might see a bit of a credibility gap with that assurance. Nearly 130,000 people have viewed that video so far.

Word of mouth is a powerful thing especially when there’s bad news. Doubly powerful when there’s YouTube.
