If you’re a podcaster and want to learn how to set up your hardware to record a phone conversation over Skype, my podcasting partner Shel Holtz has produced a video tutorial that will show you step by step how to do it.

This easy-to-follow guide unravels the mysteries of “mix minus,” meaning that you will be able to understand how to record both ends of a Skype conversation and so set up your podcast rig to do so.

If you don’t have a mixer-based set up and rely on a software solution such as Hot Recorder, much of the tutorial won’t be relevant to you. However, Shel’s advice on setting your recording options and then manipulating the resulting audio file in an audio editor such as the free Audacity is very useful and you will learn from this.
