I saw this TV ad for Virgin Atlantic for the first time last night. The airline first used it in 2010. As you can probably tell, I don’t watch a lot of TV. :)
It captured my imagination. Beautifully made. And it ticks a lot of “connection boxes.” Attractive people, terrific sound track – “I’m Feeling Good” – contemporary and futuristic settings, aspirational, even experiential, solid brand value, shows the company as leading edge.
I want to fly with people like that!

I agree – I stop my distraction and watch it – My first choice long haul airline.
Yes, I remember it the first time round and was wondering why they resurrected it (they are not known for standing still, normally). Maybe that's the simple answer: because it's good!
Really? I just get cycnical and think, "yeah, right". May be in 1st class, but in cattle class you won't get anything even remotely like that.
+Armin Grewe oh I don't know – dream big and you'll get treatment like this in any class :)
+Neville Hobson really? I doubt that I can dream away the seat in front of me smashing my knees and the sweaty elbows of my neighbour fighting with me over space on the armrest. Sorry, I'm too much of a realist.
+Armin Grewe mmm, that's a shame, Armin. I don't recognize any travel experience of my own from your description, on any airline. Well, apart from that trip from San Jose to Tegucigalpa back in the 80s. Oh, and Heathrow to Turin a couple of years ago… :)
They may have ‘got it’ in terms of advertising but I had my first experience of flying long haul with them a couple of months ago and to be frank, it’s not an experience I’d like to have again. They left me high and dry being ill on an airport, no assistance in getting a hotel room, just a boot off the plane. The promise of a re-booked flight the day after wasn’t honoured, and the customer complaint email received a reply to say ‘there wasn’t anything we could have done’. Oh yes Virgin there was! As a result I will not fly with them again and I will not recommend them to anyone else. Saying that, all cattle-class long haul travel is equally bad as you’re always treated as second class citizens. Travel is fun, flying isn’t.
