Published this week on the Socially Unacceptable podcast is an episode where I joined the hosts, Chris Norton and Will Ockenden, as their guest.

We recorded this episode in early October, now some two and a half months ago. There has been quite a lot of water under the bridge in that time, including my quitting X a week after we recorded, and continuing tremors and eruptions from the actions of X’s capricious proprietor. These relevant post-conversation events add some additional perspective to what we discussed in the podcast.

We explored several intriguing topics:

1. Elon Musk’s Impact on X: We delved into Musk’s leadership and influence, discussing the potential implications for the future of X, known as Twitter until last July. I shared my perspectives on how these changes could affect user engagement and brand strategies on the platform, reiterating my strong view that it’s time to abandon that ship.
2. Marketing in a Diverse Media Landscape: In our conversation, we emphasised the necessity of authentic connections with audiences, especially considering the proliferation of digital channels and AI’s growing influence in marketing.
3. Evolution of Podcasting: We reflected on the journey of podcasting, particularly its role in business communication. We all provided insights on how podcasting has transformed since I started podcasting in 2005, and its potential future, influenced greatly by technological advancements like AI.
4. Learning from Mistakes: Everyone makes mistakes, and none of us is an exception to that rule! We shared some personal stories and lessons from past professional mistakes, highlighting the importance of these experiences in shaping effective communication strategies.

In sum, this episode offers a dive into current trends and future prospects in digital communication, with a focus on authenticity and adaptation in an ever-evolving media landscape.
