Mailbird is a good tool for email and calendar management

For more than twenty years, Microsoft Outlook has been the primary software tool I use for email and calendars on Windows PCs, for both business and personal uses. On New Year’s Day, I switched my personal email accounts to Mailbird, a software tool that lets me manage my email and calendars on my Windows 11 PCs. Even only four days into my use, I’m already well impressed with Mailbird, how easy it was to install and set up, and the…

    Like a comet

I noticed that I last posted in this blog in April 2020. That’s not far off two years ago. So why am I back here again now? I decided to restart it. Not as a busy blog with new content all the time, nor focused on Covid-19 and the pandemic (that’s still with us) but more as a place for asides. I’m refreshing my primary blog which is a work in progress. I’m not under any deadline or pressure and…

The Metaverse, Web 3 and Internet 2: the conversation (and hype) continues

Two things happened recently that reminded me of the saying “what goes around, comes around” but in a good way. Both things concern the metaverse, Web 3 and Internet 2. These are terms that everyone is talking about online and offline, yet no one seems to be talking about them from the same page. The most recent reminder came a few days ago in a tweet from Joe Garde in Dublin who noted the state of things back in 2008.…

The usefulness of single-journey data in a hybrid car

This week I drove into and out of central London, into the congestion charging zone, in my self-charging hybrid car for the first time this year. It’s about a 60-mile trip each way for me on the A4 and M4 motorway. Much of the journey on the M4 is under 50mph or 60mph speed limits due to the huge smart motorway project to widen that whole stretch to four lanes each way between J12 at Theale and J3 at Hayes.…

15 years and 100,000 tweets later: 3 tips for Twitter you can learn from

Twitter reminded me the other day that it was fifteen years ago when I signed up for a Twitter account. December 7, 2006, was that day and the message I posted was like many you saw at the time when people started signing up – pithy and full of insight :) Indeed, it was so unremarkable that it didn’t get a mention in my blog at a time when I was paying a lot of attention to what was happening…
