About our guest co-host

Joseph Thornley is CEO of Thornley Fallis and 76design. He also is the Chair of the Canadian Council of Public Relations Firms and a Senior Fellow of the Society for New Communications Research. Joseph is actively engaged with social media. He blogs at propr.ca and ccprf.ca and is "thornley" on Twitter, delicious, and many other places online.

Joe has been a driving force behind the Third Tuesday Social Media events which bring together social media enthusiasts and communicators to explore new developments in social media and their impact on society, organizations and citizens. Third Tuesday represents an ongoing experiment in the power of social media to build online communities that manifest themselves in real world relationships. Third Tuesday events have been organized across Canada in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa and New Brunswick.

Prior to founding Thornley Fallis, Joe served in a series of progressively more senior positions with Hill and Knowlton, one of Canada’s largest integrated communications consulting firms. From 1984 to 1995, he was promoted from Consultant to Vice President, Senior Vice President and Executive Vice President. During his years at Hill and Knowlton, Joe established and developed highly successful public affairs and communications consulting practices in both Toronto and Ottawa.

At the outset of his working career, Joe served in a number of positions with the Federal Government. From 1978 to 1979, he served as Legislative Assistant to the Hon. Ed Lumley, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance. From 1980 to 1983, Mr. Thornley served first as Legislative Assistant and then as Executive Assistant to the Hon. Francis Fox, Minister of Communications. In 2008, he was elected Chair of the Canadian Council of Public Relations Firms, the industry association of Canada’s leading public relations consulting firms.

He is a Senior Fellow of the Society for New Communications Research and a member of the Counsellors Academy of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS), the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), and the Web Analytics Association (WAA).
