October is six months away still, yet now’s the time to start thinking about entering The UK Social Media Communication Awards 2013.
Started in 2010 and known originally as The SomeComms Awards, this contest showcases innovation and the very best in British social media communications, and will celebrate the best of the best at a ceremony in London on October 24.
This is the first time the Awards ceremony will be in London: in previous years, it’s been held in Manchester.
The Awards are organized by Don’t Panic Projects, the events company run by good friends Nicky and Andy Wake (I first met Nicky and Andy in 2005 in those early days of social media when they put together the first conference of its type in conjunction with Philip Young).
I’m thrilled that Nicky and Andy asked me to be an Awards judge again; and equally thrilled to be joining a judging panel made up of people who have earned real credibility in recent years across the social media spectrum in this country.
The 2013 Awards are divided into categories. There’s a special category in memory of Mark Hanson who died in 2011, that aims to reward the brightest and most promising young social media communicator under 30 years old. This award is free to enter and all those shortlisted will be given a free place at the Awards ceremony in October

- Friday 12 July 2013 – Closing date for entries.
- Thursday 10 September 2013 – Shortlists announced.
- Thursday 24 October 2013 – Awards ceremony, Emirates Stadium, London.
